In Windows Cygwin enviroment, compiler reports
redefinition error at cbfstool/ifwitool.c
on _packed and __aligned.
Skip new defines when vales are already defined.

the __must_check function attribute is pretty much straight from the
linux kernel - used to encourage callers to consume function return
values.
