Use a simple one-liner for each of the functions. You can surely optimize the code some more, but I chose not to do that in order to keep it readable. When compiling with -Os the size differences are minimal. This is libpayload, a minimal library to support standalone payloads that can be booted with firmware like coreboot. It handles the setup code, and provides common C library symbols such as malloc() and printf(). Please see the sample/ directory for an example of the payload in action.
